If there’s one game capable of bringing the entire internet to a standstill, it’s Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6). The wait is long, anticipation is building, and amid it all, rumors surface every day.
But in this special feature, Portal Viciados is doing something different: we’ve gathered only official announcements from Rockstar Games—no speculation, no leaks, and no theories. Everything the developer has confirmed about GTA 6, from the first announcement to the most recent delay.
If everything goes as planned, GTA 6 arrives on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X; the PC version is not confirmed but is expected to follow later. Until then, this is the official timeline for the most anticipated game in the history of video games.
February 2022: Rockstar confirms a new GTA for the first time

The first official confirmation came on February 4, 2022. At the time, Rockstar Games had not yet mentioned the name GTA 6, but publicly confirmed that it was developing the next game in the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
In a statement published on its official website, Rockstar declared:
“With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, many have been asking us about a new addition to the Grand Theft Auto series. As with every new project we embark on, our goal is always to go far beyond what we’ve done before—and we’re happy to confirm that we’re actively working on the development of the next title in the Grand Theft Auto series.”
That’s when the wait went from speculation to official.
July 2022: Red Dead Online takes a backseat to make way for the new GTA

A few months later, on July 7, 2022, Rockstar mentioned the new GTA again, this time indirectly, but very significantly.
The company confirmed that it would be slowing down updates for Red Dead Online, making it clear that efforts were focused on the next Grand Theft Auto.
According to Rockstar Games:
“In recent years, our team has increasingly focused resources on the development of the next game in the Grand Theft Auto series.”
For many players, this was the first concrete sign that GTA 6 was already consuming a large portion of Rockstar Games’ resources.
September 2022: Leaks Force an Official Statement

On September 19, 2022, Rockstar was forced to speak again about the new GTA following one of the biggest leaks in the industry’s history. Several early gameplay clips from the game circulated online.
In response, the company issued an official statement confirming that the footage was real, but emphasizing that development would continue as normal:
“Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto will continue as planned, and we remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience that truly exceeds your expectations.”
Even in the midst of the crisis, the message was clear: GTA 6 was not in jeopardy.
November 2023: The trailer promise finally comes true

After months of silence, Rockstar reappeared on November 8, 2023, during the company’s 25th-anniversary celebration. In the statement, it confirmed that it would reveal news about GTA 6 in December.
December 2023: Trailer 1 breaks the internet

On December 4, 2023, the first trailer for GTA 6 ended up leaking ahead of schedule. In response, Rockstar decided to release the video officially.
The result was historic. The trailer racked up hundreds of millions of views and confirmed that the game would arrive in 2025, in addition to introducing Vice City, Lucia, and Jason for the first time.
2024: Total Silence from Rockstar
Throughout 2024, Rockstar Games made no official announcements about GTA 6. No trailer, no images, no revised release window. A silence that, over time, began to worry part of the community.
May 2025: GTA 6 is delayed to 2026

The first blow came on May 2, 2025, when Rockstar officially confirmed that GTA 6 would not be released in 2025, as initially promised.
The new release date announced was May 26, 2026.
A few days later, on May 6, 2025, the company released the second trailer for GTA 6, accompanied by an official website packed with information about characters, cities, and never-before-seen details of the game.
November 2025: the second official delay
The most painful announcement came on November 6, 2025. Rockstar confirmed that GTA 6 had been delayed again, this time to November 19, 2026.
February 2026: Take-Two officially announces the marketing window for GTA 6

Take-Two confirmed on February 3, 2026, that the GTA 6 marketing campaign will begin in mid-2026 (between June and August 2026).
