Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive—the parent company of Rockstar Games, the studio behind GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto VI)—has decided to "calm the waters."
In an interview with The Game Business, the executive reiterated that the idea of artificial intelligence creating games on the scale of Grand Theft Auto on its own is impossible.

Similarly, Zelnick expressed surprise at the financial market’s panic, noting that the history of video games has been shaped by technological evolution.

For him, new advances like Project Genie should be seen as allies that allow for faster and more efficient work, but never as substitutes for creative vision. The executive compared AI to common productivity tools to illustrate his point.
According to Zelnick, the fact that everyone has access to PowerPoint doesn’t mean the market is flooded with incredible presentations.
He argues that AI may even help generate basic elements or prototypes reminiscent of sports games, but the “heavy lifting” of world-building, narrative, and handcrafted details continues to depend exclusively on human talent.
The contrast with NVIDIA’s controversial DLSS 5

Zelnick’s remarks come at a sensitive time for the gaming community, which is currently protesting NVIDIA’s new DLSS 5.
The new technology proposes using AI to overlay photorealism and alter the original lighting of games in real time. Many players and developers criticize the move, classifying it as a disrespect to the original art direction conceived by the artists.
By defending Rockstar Games’ “artisanal touch,” Take-Two is taking a stance opposed to the trend of aggressive visual automation.
For the company, AI should operate behind the scenes, accelerating routine technical processes, while the soul of cities like Vice City remains manually sculpted by thousands of developers.
