It has been four years since *God of War Ragnarok* brought the Norse saga to a close on Sony consoles. Since then, Santa Monica has remained completely silent about what’s next for the series.
However, new rumors suggest that the franchise’s return is imminent, but with a twist that is sure to divide fans: Kratos will no longer be the protagonist.
God of War announcement in April but without Kratos?
According to various industry sources, including past reports from FandomWire and MP1st, the new God of War would be a prequel, focusing on the life of Faye (Laufey the Just), the late wife of the Ghost of Sparta and mother of Atreus.

Details suggest that Faye would not be alone, but accompanied by Tyr, the original Norse god of war. The premise would be to explore the journey of the two before Faye’s encounter with Kratos.
The most exciting aspect may lie in the game’s lore and scale. Old rumors from God of War 2018 about other lands are likely to come true: the spin-off would take players to explore elements of mythologies such as Chinese, Japanese, Mayan, and possibly Egyptian.
The leaks reveal some details about the journey that are, at the very least, intriguing:
- Merlin: Yes, the famous Arthurian wizard would be in the game, but in the form of a talking sword.
- Gelatinous Cube: A strange mystical companion would be by Faye and Tyr’s side during combat and puzzles.
Although Kratos isn’t the star of the game, sources suggest that the Spartan is likely to make some kind of appearance or have a fundamental emotional connection, honoring the character’s legacy.
The factor creating the most urgency is the information from Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming. On the XB2+1 podcast, the journalist commented that he heard from independent sources that a new God of War announcement is planned to happen very soon, specifically this April.
If Sony confirms a new State of Play for the coming weeks, Faye’s journey has a good chance of being the show’s “big surprise.”
