The answer to this agony isn’t new. During the GTA 5 marketing campaign, the developer had already published a post on its official Newswire explaining its work style and the real reason for leaving fans in the dark for so long.

No news on GTA 6? "It’s not a lack of respect"

At the time, responding to a direct question from a fan (“Why don’t you give us more news?”), Rockstar Games was incredibly transparent about its communication philosophy, which is still in use today:

"We’ve sometimes had long gaps between releases of material for previous games, and we’ll continue to do so in the future. We’re sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand: we don’t do this because ‘we don’t care about our fans,’ ‘we don’t respect our fans,’ or ‘we hate GTA fans.’ Quite the opposite!"

The developer broke down its strategy into two fundamental pillars that still dictate the rules of GTA 6 marketing today:

  • 100% Accurate Information: Rockstar stated that it only releases information when it is absolutely certain that it will be in the final product. In a complex development process, mechanics and visuals can change, and the studio wants to avoid empty promises or downgrades.
  • Saving the surprises: "We do this because we want to save plenty for the game’s actual launch, so there are still plenty of surprises when you play it," the studio explained. The goal is for the experience of discovering the world (in this case, the state of Leonida) to be magical and unprecedented on launch day, rather than fully revealed months earlier on YouTube.

In short, Rockstar’s silence isn’t a sign of problems in the development of GTA 6 or neglect of the community; it’s simply the company’s signature style. They know the hype sustains itself.
