In recent days, the internet has been abuzz with a new leak from Rockstar Games. But unlike in 2022, we haven’t seen any unfinished gameplay footage of GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto VI) or the story of Lucia and Jason being revealed.
You can check out my video on this topic in the player below:
What the hackers leaked was financial data showing the strength of Rockstar Games. And, ironically, what was supposed to be a disaster turned into the biggest free publicity Take-Two has ever had, causing its stock to skyrocket.
Qual o seu protagonista favorito do GTA 6?

But beyond the shock of seeing the absurd amount of money that GTA Online generates (we’re talking about $5 billion in Shark Cards alone!), what do these numbers really tell us about the highly anticipated GTA 6?
Looking at the data objectively, the answer is very clear: the game was born a giant—and here’s why!
GTA 6 Online is being built to be a cash cow

The first big lesson from this leak is to understand why Rockstar was never in a hurry. With GTA Online raking in between $400 million and $700 million annually even a decade after launch, the company had a luxury no other studio in the world has: infinite time.
They didn’t need to rush GTA 6’s release to meet financial targets. They’re literally sitting on a gold mine. This gives us immense confidence in the game’s quality.

If the budget for the new game really is in the range of $2 or $3 billion, as rumors suggest, it makes perfect sense.
Rockstar Games knows the risk is zero. We, the community that plays and consumes the online mode, have already financed the development of GTA 6 indirectly.
Will GTA 6 be marketed with PlayStation?

Another mind-blowing fact was the platform breakdown. The PlayStation 5 alone accounts for over 50% of GTA Online’s revenue, while the entire Xbox family combined barely exceeds 22%, and the PC makes up a mere 3%.
What does this tell us about the future? That GTA 6’s marketing may go through Sony. If the PS5 is where Rockstar’s big money is, we can expect massive partnerships and exclusive PlayStation console bundles.
The sacrifice of Red Dead Online and the future of services like GTA Plus

The leak also brought the bitter truth that Red Dead Redemption fans needed to hear. Red Dead Online generates very little revenue compared to GTA Online.
This means that GTA 6’s online mode will be designed from day one to be a retention machine. Rockstar Games must learn from the mistakes of Red Dead Online and not repeat them with the new GTA 6 Online.

The leak revealed that the GTA+ service has over 1.3 million active subscribers. You can bet on it: in GTA 6, the ecosystem of subscriptions and microtransactions will be even more entrenched, continuous, and aggressive, transforming the Vice City experience into a service that will last another 15 years.

The hackers tried to harm Rockstar Games, but they ended up giving us the strongest proof that the company knows exactly what it’s doing.
In short, their silence and the delay for GTA 6 Trailer 3 aren’t signs of development issues; they’re just reflections of those who have absolute control over the situation.
