The insane hype surrounding GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto VI) has kept the internet buzzing nonstop about Rockstar Games for the past 10 years.
You can check out the latest major GTA 6 leak in the video from our partner SanInPlay:
What started with small rumors on anonymous forums escalated to source code thefts and leaked trailers on X (formerly Twitter). Here is the main timeline of this madness that has been the launch of GTA 6:
The Start of GTA 6 Rumors (2016 – 2021)

- May 2016: It all started on 4chan, when an anonymous user leaked the first legitimate details about Rockstar’s plan to feature a dual protagonist setup (male and female) and the return of a Florida-inspired setting.
- March 2018: Inside Gaming became the first media outlet to report (and leak) concrete details about the Vice City setting and the female protagonist.
- June 2021: Insider Tom Henderson reported that the game would be set in the present day (modern era), contradicting initial rumors that the story would take place in the 1980s (the famous original "Project Americas").
The major leaks and the leaked trailer (2022–2023)

- July 2022: Jason Schreier (Bloomberg) confirmed the scope of "Project Americas" had been narrowed down to just Miami and its surroundings, and revealed the "Bonnie & Clyde" theme for the story.
- September 2022 (The Great Hack): Rockstar’s nightmare comes true. A hacker known as TeaPot breaches the servers and leaks 90 clips (nearly an hour of pre-alpha footage) and parts of the game’s source code.
- November 2023: Jason Schreier scoops Rockstar once again, revealing the announcement of Trailer 1 a day before the company officially posted that it would celebrate its 25th anniversary in December.
- December 2, 2023: The "TikTok leak." A friend of Aaron Garbut’s son (co-studio head at Rockstar North) leaks a few-second video showing the city.
- December 4, 2023: The full, low-quality Trailer 1 leaks on X, forcing Rockstar to release the official video hours ahead of schedule.
Actors, Dates, and New Attacks Against Rockstar Games (2024–2026)

- March 2024: Kotaku reports that production was behind schedule and that the game could be delayed until 2026.
- May 2024: YouTuber LegacyKilla leaks the voice actors for Jason and Lucia (Manni Perez and Dylan Rourke).
- April 2025: The full names of Jason and Lucia leak on X a month before they are officially revealed in Trailer 2.
- November 2025: Following the official announcement of the delay to November 19, 2026, Tom Henderson states that the game is “content-ready” and rules out further delays.
- January 2026: Jason Schreier contradicts Henderson, saying that the content is not yet 100% finalized, but believes the November date “seems more solid” than previous ones.
- March 2026: Hacker TeaPot, despite being in prison, manages to get a cell phone and expresses surprise that the GTA 6 source code hasn’t leaked yet, stating that “it’s out there.”
- April 2026: The hacker group ShinyHunters hacks Rockstar and demands a ransom to prevent the company’s data from being leaked. Rockstar responds publicly, stating that the stolen data is “immaterial” (irrelevant).
In short, we are now just a few months away from the official release of GTA 6, and we hope that, from now on, the only revelations will come directly from Rockstar Games itself!
