Similarly, according to journalist and insider Jeff Grubb, Microsoft reportedly moved the game internally on its schedule to avoid a direct clash with Rockstar Games in November 2026.

With GTA 6 on the way, when might Microsoft’s Fable arrive?

Grubb explained that, although Microsoft is still aiming to release the game in 2026, concerns about Rockstar are the determining factor.
- The December Risk: If Fable’s development is delayed slightly and it gets pushed to December, it would fall right into the post-launch period of GTA 6.
- Slip to 2027: For analysts, releasing a major RPG in December, right after the whole world has stopped to play GTA, would be “commercial suicide.” Therefore, if the game isn’t out by October 2026, it becomes the perfect candidate for an official delay to early 2027.
The industry still remembers what happened to Horizon Forbidden West, which launched days before Elden Ring, or how Titanfall 2 was “crushed” between Battlefield and Call of Duty.

In the case of GTA 6, the impact is many times greater. Microsoft wants Fable to have its own space and time to be the center of attention without being overshadowed by the Rockstar Games phenomenon.
